As social distancing and working from home become the norm, plenty of daily habits have been turned upside down. From skincare routines to morning commutes and exercise regimens, sticking to any sort of routine during the current uncertain times is challenging, to say the least.
Still, “challenging” doesn’t have to mean “impossible”. Maintaining a regular skincare regimen while working from home can keep your skin in tip-top condition, and can also help you keep up daily habits. This is particularly important if, like us, you’ve let your skincare routine slide a little and are now dealing with dull, congested, or dry skin. Sound familiar? Read on to discover our top skincare tips for keeping your skin healthy while social distancing and get your skin back into shape now.
1. Stay hydrated
Working from home has its positives, but let’s face it: Water cooler talk just isn’t something you can replicate over Zoom. Working remotely means saying goodbye to the water breaks we take with colleagues over a cup of tea, coffee, or glass of water, and hello to reduced water intake. Add this to the fact that lower activity levels while working from home can reduce your sensation of thirst, and you’ve got a recipe for dry and dehydrated skin.
Hydrating your skin starts from the inside out, so aim to drink at least 2L of water each day. If you’re likely to forget, setting reminders on your phone telling you to drink, or downloading a water tracking app on your phone, can help you hit your target.
Once you’ve got your water intake down, boost hydration with a rich, nourishing moisturiser like our Phytofuse Renew Maca Root Rich Day Cream. Enriched with botanical Argan and Avocado Oils and Rose of Jericho, this natural moisturiser can prevent transepidermal water loss.
While you’re at it, don’t forget to hydrate your lips with a moisturising lip balm. Dehydration causes chapped lips, which in turn can cause discomfort and irritation. Every time you moisturise, swipe on a coat of our Certified Organic Lip Serum. Infused with powerful Rosehip Oil, Sea Buckthorn, and Shea Butter, this lip treatment will give you perfectly plump, healthy lips in no time.
2. Keep active
While it’s tempting to stay in your pajamas all day and park yourself on the couch or at your desk, avoid the temptation to do so. There are plenty of benefits of exercise for skin and hair, including improved circulation, enhanced collagen production, and faster development of new skin cells. With this in mind, make time to move your body everyday, whether this means going for a walk around the block, practicing yoga, or completing a workout video at home.
To help your skin renew itself even faster, add a facial serum to your daily skincare routine. Our Phytofuse Renew Resveratrol Serum contains 14 botanical oils that provide lightweight, shine-free hydration to your skin and can fight the signs of ageing in skin.
3. Keep it clean
For many of us, cutting the morning commute out of our routine means more time for much-deserved sleep-ins and time spent on the couch. While all this extra time spent on your cushions may be good for your mental health, cushion covers and pillow slips should be washed more frequently to prevent bacterial buildup that can cause skin congestion and breakouts.
In addition to washing your pillow slips, cushion covers, and towels more frequently, be sure to cleanse your skin properly - even if you haven’t left the house all day! To hydrate your skin as you cleanse, choose a natural micellar water like our Phyto-Active Micellar Rosewater. With Aloe Vera Juice and Lactic Acid, this gentle facial cleanser effectively removes all sweat and surface debris, leaving you with skin that’s glowing and perfectly hydrated.
Top Tip: If you’re following hand washing rules and washing your hands frequently, chances are your hands will also need a bit of TLC. Restore softness with our moisturising Phytofuse Renew Avocado Oil Hand Cream.
4. Maintain a daily skin regime
You may be thinking that escaping the hustle and bustle of your daily routine means you’re not being exposed to the damaging environmental pollutants. However it is still important to provide your skin the essential ingredients to protect your skin’s natural barrier from heating and cooling, UV light exposure (even through your home office window) and the microscopic chemicals from home cleaning products. To keep it simple, we recommend you cleanse, protect and hydrate, use a day cream and protect from UV with our Loose Mineral Foundation with SPF 25+.
Working from home is no reason to skip your skincare routine
In times of uncertainty, maintaining daily habits and routines as well as possible can provide a sense of stability and comfort. This is particularly true of skincare routines, which can go a long way in making sure you feel - and look - your absolute best everyday.
